The weather is finally warm and it's time to head outside. Just like humans, dogs get excited about splashing in the pool and at the beach. It’s important to remember water safety tips for everyone in your family, especially your pets. Some dogs are natural swimmers but surprisingly some are not so don’t make any assumptions unless you know for sure. There are many things you can do prior to heading out for your water activities to ensure your pets safety.
Here are some tips:
• Never leave your pet unattended: This is the most important safety tip.
• Check the water conditions: Pools and lakes may be calmer but if you are at the beach, make sure the currents aren't too strong. Keep your dog near the shallow areas of the pool and lake if possible.
• Grab some lifejackets: Did you know there are life jackets specifically for pets? Purchase some online.
•Take breaks: Splashing in the water can be tiresome so be sure to take breaks often.
•Bring water: Although you are in the water, dogs should avoid drinking pool water due to the chlorine and beach or lake water may not be clean.
• Wash off the chemicals: After spending time in the water be sure to wash off excess chemicals. Chlorine can irritate your pets paws or skin.
Make sure your furry friend doesn't miss out on the activities this spring and summer. Just be sure to take the necessary precautions to keep them safe; after all they are man’s best friend. Visit
